This tankard is unmarked but it is nicely embossed and engraved with initials and the date March 1st 1869. Maybe it is a Christening cup? I have seen similar shapes and decorations by British makers but since it is unmarked, I cannot say for sure what it is.
There is some wear to the silver plating but the cup is otherwise in very good condition. The cup has no monetary value but it must have had some sentimental value for someone for some time because it was kept nicely polished. I always feel bad when I see items like that. Nobody wanted it anymore and it ended up being sold for next to nothing in a second hand store. I guess this is life :(
Thanks for looking:)
Many thanks for the love, aura and blunderbuss2 :)
C'est vrai! I value it for being a piece of history. I would love to find out more about it, but that's not very likely. Thanks for your comment, Ms.CrystalShip:)
Thanks so much for the love, Newfld, fortapache, and Vynil33rpm :)
