I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this piece. I saw someone previously post that they had a child’s rocking chair with the same carving on it. But I can’t find any more info other than that they were told it was from the late 1800s.

Nowhere near that old. This is a double press back and not carved. Some will tell you the image is the old man of the north and it isn't.

Yeah I was wondering if it was a lion or a green man, I have seen morphs between lion and green man before. I knew it was pressed not carved as I’ve see others, but never seen this one. I was thinking 1930s-1960s.

It looks like a variation on the north wind chair, although the mouth appears not blowing here, maybe to keep baby calm.

Phil I think this is a take off of what was called the gargoyle chair. I also don't think it is original nor is the foot rest. Note the dimension of the crest board in relation to all the other stock used in the chair. Crest board is way thicker which a furniture maker wouldn't do. He also wouldn't use a different species of wood for a foot rest. This strikes me as a miss-marriage of parts from other pieces.

Sorry to hear that Phil. I truly hope you are able to get back home and back to abnormal soon. Don't follow the crowd, get better and get home. Good Luck to you

I took a better picture with the flash on. All the pieces of wood look like the same in person. Except the part of the tray that was eaten from. I think it was changed out or fixed at some point as it has small nails in it and it’s the only part of the chair that has nails in it.

This is the only other one I can find on the net and it’s a rocking chair.

The rocking chair in the link above is nowhere near as old as they assume and it isn't a child's rocker, it is a nursing chair or also called a mother's chair. Quite possibly made in Tell City, Indiana which was a major manufacturing point for this type furniture. While the rocker is in excellent condition I would expect it was made around or after 1920.

I was thinking it looked more 20s or 30s
