A major rule of Boy Scout collecting is the Boy Scouts of America markings. This one has it on the blade and on the sheath with the fleur du lis and the motto Be "Prepared". That was something I was looking for in a fixed blade knife.
This knife was made by Western of Boulder Colorado. Western made knives for the Boy Scouts from 1948-1979. My Boy Scout knife information page has not quite finished the Western section and I haven't found information elsewhere. This has the typical aluminum end cap and stacked leather washer handle typical of vintage fixed blade Boy Scout knives. Actually common on many knives of the period are like this.
This is a rather small knife with a skinny handle. The blade is 4" which is a bit longer than the typical pocket knife. As this is my first official BSA fixed blade knife I do not have another to compare it to. The handle is small but I can hold it comfortably. Perhaps on Forged in Steel they will recreate a Boy Scout knife like this.
Cool Knife :)
