This lepid lady, attired in a diaphanous frock, shall sempiternally sit on her swing—not a single thew should interject a thought—for her body is bandied, with a mere squeeze of the damasked box.

An openwork bonnet bedights the demure doll's mohair wig, and a pair of ecru pantaloons imparts, on her pallid cheeks, a tint of modesty. On her face, Spring comes to life, flashing her bluebell eyes: glass, stationary eyes encircled by araneous lashes, surmounted by umber brows.

As I am unable to, due to the presence of her hair and garments, locate an incised mould number or maker's mark on either her bisque head or papier-mache torso, I am dithering between possible places of origin. Is she a German piece, as I believe, or French? Well, French mignonette dolls have, typically, a nose like mine—broad and slightly rounded. I do know, though, some German factories produced French-style dolls.

Should any persons, especially doyens of French dolls, have any information, please, do kindly share!

What a magnificent swinging doll. Does it wind up and move or is swing and doll stationary . I would not disturb her fragile original clothing to look for marks . I believe she is German and have seen that swing on another German doll before . A treasure !!

      Thank you, Ms. CrystalShip!

You had a very fortunate friend! Was the turtle-marked doll celluloid? The doll was, perhaps, produced by Schildkröt, a factory which fabricated heads for Kestner, Georgene Averill (Madame Hendren), and Kammer and Reinhardt dolls.
