First set of badges, #2,3 & 4 are the Staffordshire Regt. story goes that four deserters were to be hanged, but only one rope, the four were told if you can come up with solution of one rope to hang three, that one would be free! You can see that there are three spaces.

The Stafford Knot
One of my favourite stories John, but like all good stories ?????
Although not heraldic in its own right, the Stafford Knot is an ancient symbol that is steeped in history.
The earliest recording of the Stafford Knot is the shaft of a stone cross located in Stoke-on-Trent churchyard. The cross itself is traceable to between 750 and 850 AD. However, the knot device could have been added at a later date.
Tkanks Imander I will probably post a few more.
