A few years ago, I purchase three large lathe chisels and I’m looking for some idea of how old they are.
Two of them are L. & I.J. White Company spindle gouges and one is a DR Barton.
Doing a little research, I found three tool marks for the L. & I.J. White Company.
1. L. & I.J. WHITE
2. L & I.J. WHITE BUFFALO
3. L. & I.J. WHITE, 1837, BUFFALO, N.Y., U.S.A.
Does any one know if one tool mark is older than the other? The one I have is the L. & I.J. WHITE.
I also think there are several DR Barton marks. The one I have is D.R. BARTON, 1832, ROCHESTER N.Y.
I re-handled the L. & I.J. WHITE roughing gouge and use it all the time. I made the handle on opening day, so there is a little baseball theme.
Thank you.
