Welcome to my small, but growing, collection of Whiting & Davis wallets!

Many of us who appreciate and collect vintage fashion are familiar with the Whiting & Davis handbag company. Reputed to be the oldest handbag firm in the United States, W&D is still in operation today, producing luxurious accessories in their infamous metal mesh “fabric.”

Their heyday was the Art Deco era, though they evolved with the times, updating their silhouettes to appeal to generation after generation. While focus shifted away from new W&D pieces and toward vintage pieces in the 1990s, their accessories from the 1980s are not to be overlooked. During this era, bold, vibrant colors and striking geometric designs were used by the fashion house.

These wallets were created in the ‘80s, and all feature a very glossy enameling that sparkles in the light. They feature nylon linings that are printed with the brand’s name in elegant calligraphy font. While they are a bit tough to find, they are usually priced within reason when they are available on sites like eBay and Etsy. You might save even more if you luck into one at your local flea market or thrift store. Thank you for looking, and enjoy!

Newfld, thank you so much! Yes, they really do have that disco sparkle to them. Whiting & Davis produced some really fabulous halter tops during the ‘70s, and they are really fun to see.

racer4four, I love Glomesh, too! These wallets are quite similar to Glomesh’s Pesh wallet, which has a nearly-identical layout. I have been trying to order one from their website, but my card keeps blocking transactions to Australia. Hopefully, I will own one someday!

glassiegirl, thank you so much! The chevron is my absolute favorite. Years ago, at a thrift store, I found the necklace that matches it. I sold the necklace shortly after discovering it, but now that I have the wallet that matches it, I wish I had it again. You never know, though. I might stumble upon the piece again one of these days. :)
