Ever since discovering Elsa Schiaparelli and her fascinating, avant garde designs, I have been a diehard collector. Her life story drew me in, and her infamous rivalry with her French fashion counterpart, Coco Chanel, furthered my interest in her designs.
Schiaparelli had a unique approach to style that reflected a brand of creativity previously unseen. I have always thought of her as laying the building blocks of mystical/fantasy fashions, like those seen in Kirks Folly creations. Among my favorites are her lobster fabric dresses, which can be seen in museums.
Schiaparelli jewelry often features molded, opalescent glass stones in the shapes/textures of flowers, leaves, and unrefined nuggets. However, this brooch stands out from other pieces by the fashion house due to its symmetry and use of classic, round brilliant rhinestones.
If you are shopping for Schiaparelli jewelry, her brooches tend to fetch between $200 and $500. However, with some patience and dedicated sleuthing, they can be found for a small fraction of these estimates.
I look forward to sharing the rest of my Schiaparelli collection, so be sure to check back often! Thank you for stopping by, and enjoy!
Stunning vintage Maltese cross, lovely design. If possible can you post a back view photo, whether signed or not it is nice to see
Very pretty, lovely combination of color!
Newfld, I would be happy to do so! I will take one later today to add to this post. It is signed in bold lettering in an oval cartouche. Schiaparelli pieces have all sorts of signatures, and I could do a side-by-side comparison of different marks, if you’re interested! :)
Mrstyndall, thank you very much! Blue is my favorite color, so this was a really special gift from a special person. If you’re interested, I believe that there is a green version of this brooch available on Poshmark, but I might be mistaken.
valentino97, I would love to read this book! I will have to see if I can find a copy online. It sounds like an excellent resource and a fun read!
