Art Deco combs are among my favorite treasures to collect, and this is my personal favorite in my stash. This elaborate accessory is made of apple juice celluloid and paste rhinestones, with coordinating painted detailing.
Before I began collecting these combs, I have no idea that there were so many different types of celluloid, all with different names. This comb features apple juice celluloid, name for its translucent yellow color. Also to be found are amber celluloid, faux tortoise celluloid, marble celluloid, ivoroid, and many more. I like to collect it because it is beautiful, but also because it is a cruelty-free material.
I look forward to sharing more of my combs in future uploads. Thank you for stopping by, and enjoy!
I love this, so pretty and elegant!
Mrstyndall, thank you! These combs are absolutely stunning. I love to imagine the original owners, finishing their flapper look by fastening one of these to their hairdos. I wish this comb could talk about the parties it attended with the wearer!
Gorgeous peacock feather topper to this pretty comb, will enjoy seeing more to come :)
I would love to see this in some styled hair!
Can I ask a favour? More pictures in your posts, maybe some closeups, would be great! You can have up to 4 :)
Newfld, thank you very much! I really love these combs, and this is my absolute favorite. However, I’ve been fortunate to happen upon some lovely examples over the years, and I look forward to sharing them all. :)
racer4four, thank you for the suggestion! I am glad to know that there is interest in what I share. As I am relatively new to this site, I am still figuring out how to navigate, and I wasn’t sure at first if people would find my items as fascinating as I do, lol! I will be sure to add more photos in future posts, as well as existing posts. :)
