Here's something a tad different from my usual fare of art glass - a classic 1960s pulp fiction novel - The Man From C.A.M.P.
A gay parody of 60s secret agents such as The Man From U.N.C.L.E & James Bond, The Man From C.A.M.P is the first in a series of racy popular novels by "Don Holliday" & published by Corinth Books in the 1960s. Don Holliday was one of the pen names of Victor J. Banis, a prolific fiction writer & gay rights campaigner. This was a ground breaking book in its time, featuring a flamboyantly gay main character, who also happens to be a secret agent in the employ of a mysterious organisation called C.A.M.P.
The refreshingly outrageous hero is Jackie Holmes - an effeminate dynamo with a license to kill...& thrill. He's super smart, stylish, & multi - talented in a diverse range of fields - such as martial arts, the appreciation of fine art & antiques, restoring vintage cars, & much more besides...
What can I say but that when I first heard of this legendary character, & spied an image of the iconic cover art (by Robert Bonfils) I knew I that had to obtain an original copy, post haste, & at any cost. Needless to say, it did not cost me the humble price of 75 cents that it did back in 1966. But for a piece of history like this, there is almost no price too high!
As a fan of the Bond parody Austin Powers, I cannot for the life of me understand why someone hasn't made a movie of this outstandingly over - the - top romp. Although Jackie Holmes is somewhat more X - rated than James Bond...who seems like a stitched up square in comparison to this swinging fellow...

For some reason, when I saw first this cover art, it was like looking in a mirror, LOL!
Except replace the poodle with a cat & the cigarette (in holder) with a glass of red wine...
PS. The poodle's name is Sophie, & she also has a license to kill - she may look fluffy & harmless, but has "two rows of razor sharp teeth!"
The plot revolves around highly convincing fake diamonds being smuggled in bouffant hairstyles...& the fake diamond mastermind is a super butch gal (who looks like a guy) called Big Daddy. What can I say but that it is as queer as a $9 bill...& I absolutely loved it!
