I just received this blanket from a relative who passed away. I wanted to learn more about the region it might have come from. I think they bought it in Arizona, but I am not positive.
If anyone knows information about it, please let me know!
Where an item is purchased may have nothing to do with where it was made.
Shops in Arizona have long had trade contacts with the rest of the world. It's possible to buy items made in China, Africa, Mexico, or virtually any place in the world, in Arizona. So one should never assume everything sold in the state was made there. It could just as easily come from the local Walmart!
Your weaving is Mexican. This particular style of flying bird is the iconic design pattern from the Altiplano region of central Mexico, and comes in many color variations. The rug itself is woven on a horizontal floor loom, which resulted in fringe. The original fringe was hidden when the ends were hemmed, and the thick yarn fringe was added on.
So it's "native" to Mexico, but has no connection with Native American weaving.
