Wondering about age/style of piece

I just bought this piece. I think it may be older - drawers are dovetailed (3 dovetails per side; top, bottom and middle; not with pins) and there is a lot of detail in the carvings but not all consistent from one piece to the other. My husband thinks it is a newer piece as it appears to be machine made (drawer bottoms are curved at the edges). I would appreciate any information about the possible age and the geographic region or style. I think it may have been painted white at one point and subsequently stripped. Also, the drawer fronts (routered detail) and the flat part around the floral motifs on the front have lots of tiny holes. I am unsure as to whether this is decorative or if something was removed at some point. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
