This 4"L seafoam color brooch is named Quarrelsome Cat, a famous art deco design by French jewelry artist Lea Stein (1960 -). It is the featured photo in her wiki bio and dates from 1969-1981, having a heat mounted clasp. Inspired by the collection of Betty1978, for description of item composition see Ms Stein's wiki profile or informative comments below

Who can not love a Stein brooch. This one is quite pretty for her I think, perhaps it’s that lovely green.

'Celluloid Seafoam' sounds like some sort of alternate artsy music group or something! :P Anyway, I love the beautiful colour of him, he looks like some ancient stone statue in some kind of temple- I think the colour makes me think he's been carved out of turquoise maybe? He's my favorite upload of yours this week, he positively radiates calm, down to his really restful colour

Hi Jenni, this brings back memories of a trip to Paris in 1980, and a shipping trip at one of their French department stores. They had a display of Leah Stein brooches, and I picked a figural brooch in brown and green of a person with baggy pants and large brimmed hat.

It was unique for me, and within my budget, I had no idea till years later who Lea Stein was and how collectible her pieces would become. Never mind finding out that my brooch is one of the rare ones today.

Love the cat, thanks for posting.

Here is one like mine in other colors:

Thanks Karen for the wonderful compliments, yes upon discovering Lea Stein's jewelry I find it fascinating, especially a pretty shaded design like this cat. It is my first Stein piece & hope not my last as they are rather cost prohibitive, got a few on wish lists but may have to wait til Christmas to unlock the giving spirit in hubby lol

Lauren thank you for the fab compliments & always appreciate your sharp eye, I made a blunder in the description running celluloid & seafoam (or pale turquoise) together, the latter just meant the color & I have separated them - but yes, how about that name for a band! :)) I am so happy this is your fave upload of mine this wk, it always makes me truly glad when you enjoy my posts

Oh Lisa would I have loved to have visited Paris in the 80s, lucky you, it must have been so dreamy - what wonderful things you must've brought home! The great thing about Lea Stein is the variety, all her pieces are little works of art - hope you will post yours one day, its counterpart looks lovely & unique, and certainly highly collectible. Thank you for the fantastic comment- compliments & the link, I'm really glad to find other Stein fans here & hope I'll be able to get others in future

Mary and Jenni, I came across a newer company who produces their own resin layered jewelry with good quality in Australia since 2011. Called Erstwilder, with many popular lines and designs, available on the usual selling sites.

Already their pieces are becoming highly collectible, many are sweet and others are humorous. Getting a few and will post when I have them. Here is an example:

Great info Mary & Lisa, really appreciate it. Mary I thought of you & your super collection when I got this cat. That's really cool that Lea & her husband invented rhodoid, so talented & a beautiful plastic. Lisa I have looked at the Erstwilder pieces they're gorgeous too, then there are those by Stein's French competitor Marie Christine Pavone - so much beauty, of course my eye is always on their animals, gotta work on hubby $ lol!

HA! Jenni another company I have to check out, I bought a black footed prairie ferret earlier today, speaking of animals, really cute. My hubby buys his own hobby model railroad trains, so I indulge too with my own pension and interests.

Mary, which one looks really cheap! That made me laugh... a blast from the past.

I have seen some older brooch pieces with highly eroded or oxidized metal clasps, I'm sure that affects the value. Your opinion is important here as this is your expertise. Thanks.

Thanks Mary I wasn't home today just got in, I have removed celluloid from the description, which has mentioned the wiki bio as my primary source of info - have a good night & thanx again :)

Mary you ARE the absolute queen of plastic jewelry there is no doubt! Anytime you feel my post descriptions need fixing don't hesitate, as you say the readers deserve correct info & I am always willing to make changes :)
