I had an enjoyable excursion the other day, browsing around some local shops. I'd seen this small vase before, & decided that it was time to add it to my collection. Pink & green is a favourite colour scheme of mine, & one quite often seen in Victorian art glass. It is so evocative of Spring, which is definitely on the way here.
This small vase packs plenty of visual punch despite it measuring only 12.2 cm tall, 3.5 cm across the top rim, & 4.7 cm across the base, which does not have a pontil mark.
The vase is made from three layers of cased glass - clear over bright pink & green aventurine spatter, with a white interior.
The pink areas on the base are particularly bright - almost neon pink.
I have not encountered this exact shape before in this type of spatter glass, it seems distinctive & should provide a clue in identifying it eventually.
    Maybe Welz?

I would agree it looks like a Welz decor, but the shape is unusual. Nice find.

      And perhaps later than Victorian?

Karen, it's a super hot pink in some areas...& yes, the shape is rather unusual, too. Found it in Blackheath...love my local finds... :-)

      Beautiful welz!

The decor is found in numerous documented welz shapes.

      Thanks so much, Scott!
Yes, it certainly has much in common with some other pieces I have in this decor in better known Welz shapes. I really enjoy the small, but interesting shape of this one...seems like we were lucky to get some rare pieces in Australia...

It is an unusual shape. As for lucky-- sure, but part of it is the work and perseverance of looking/ asking/ investigating.

You/ we all make our own luck.

Keep up the work as we all enjoy looking at your great results!

Totally agree, Scott - I'm always on the lookout for interesting glass - the search neer ends, & boy, does it help add a touch of fun to life!
If my fun pursuits can add some enjoyment to other folks such as yourself, then even better - I'm thrilled at the idea of sharing the good vibes around - & don't we all need some!
