This is a very large compote/ bowl. I do not know it's origin or age.
can anyone advise?
the glass is clear, but it has a slight smoky gray hue to it.

I'm rather sure this is US Glass Co from the mid 1920s when this type of English styled cut-glass look-a-like was popular. I just don't remember the pattern name without looking it up. Some of these patterns were continued later by Tiffin.
It's a heavy one! And big!
Thanks to your Tiffin lead, I was able to solve another piece I own that i didn't post yet. It's a clear trophy vase and here is a link to a blue one i found on Ebay just like mine except for the color.

Be aware that Indiana Glass Co. copied this Tiffin vase in colors (the blue is one of them). They called it Monticello. Yours could be Tiffin because it is clear, but Indiana made them in clear too, and clear decorated with ruby stain. See:

Theoretically, the Tiffin-made vases should be better quality.
I will climb up and get it and post it this week. There is a large air duct that goes around my apartment. I put white Christmas lights up there against the wall and I have the glass around my place on the edge of the duct so the lights shine behind my glass. I'll climb up and get my trophy glass pieces down. I have to go to work now :-(
