“When this little fellow was first introduced, Cybis titled him ‘Owl, Woody’ but shortly thereafter renamed him Woody Owl. At 4” high he is just a hair (feather??) shorter than the Baby Owl. According to the 1983 introductory brochure Woody is a saw-whet owl.”

*Woody isn’t from the era I am drawn too and not one of the earlier owls from the Cybis Owl Collection. I still had to get this piece.
Gorgeous owl figure, beautifully painted
Love that face :-)
Manikin and Newfld he makes me smile as does your comments.
I completely share your love of MCM as a mainstay, yet I, too, am drawn to the occasional (frequent!) whimsical expression from other times. I showed my little neighbor boy, who loves my collection, and he said the owl looks like he's saying "Say what?" I misunderstood at first, thinking he had said "Say whet?" We played around with "Saw whet", too. I think this may be an inside joke for a while. ANYWAYYYYYY, long story just to say... thanks!
HappyHourOwls, thank you for such a delightful story. One of my daughters thinks Woody is weird-creepy. I truly love going to refuges and seeing the real deal more than having the “whimsical expression from other times,” but this year, oh my. Walking through thrift stores can be weirdly therapeutic.
Thrift store --- sort of a reverse once-and-future archeology!
