These hand made pottery beer cups are about 4.25" high x 3.25" top diameter x 2.5" bottom diameter with the maker's mark on the base. They are new in the box but probably date to the 1990s.
I have been looking for some Japanese beer cups for some time but they tend to be pretty expensive and I finally got lucky. The seller did not know that these are hand made by a studio potter, Tsuneko Tanaka, in Japan.
Tanaka uses "Tsune" as her marketing name. These usually sell for about $100-200 for the set but I got them for $9.99. Beer glasses are not in her current inventory and, from some study I did, it appears that these beer cups were a break through design which first gained her major recognition as a potter. I am testing them out as I write this. They fit the hand well and keep the beer very cold though they do sweat quite a bit on the sides. The fact that the bottoms are recessed seems to prevent moisture rings on the surfaces they sit on. Nice.
