hI I am hoping someone werll versed in swilver marking knowledge acan help me out here. As the photo shows this spoon shows as Sheffield Sterling however it has onlt one marking on it, no maker No duty stamp and so if I go by the crown and the capital X, I come up a date of 1843. Very confusing any help would be much appreciated
An American firm and not English.

Yes it’s plated it was probably a marketing ploy to add the word sterling.
