My grandfather found this in the 1970s in an old abandoned house under a whole bunch of newspapers. It didn’t have any hair so he gave it to my mother and my mother had a wig put on it. Other than that everything is original. She gave it to me and I’d just like to know what it’s made of or what it might be. She seems to be stuffed in the body and the upper legs with something crunchy LOL her clothes are still incredibly beautiful and in very very good shape for her age which seems to be on up there. :-) I haven’t found any makers Mark’s but I think-I’m almost certain- it might be some type of pottery she’s made of but that’s all I can tell you. Can anyone help identify anything about her? Thank you in advance!

A wonderful Paper Mache German doll with glass eyes . With what appears to be clothes she was originally made for her not factory but made by perhaps a Mother . Her lower legs look replaced. Dates from very late 1800s-to early 1900. Because of body construction I am dating that body into 1910-1920. Some of these are wax over paper mache but by your photo I am not seeing any wax over on her . Sometimes hard to tell by photo . So I would just say a Paper mache doll :-)

Oh thank you thank you thank you so very much! I can’t tell you what that means to me! I can’t help but wonder what actually happened to her body, though. I agree about the clothes. They look so lovingly and carefully made, I couldn’t imagine they were made by a machine. My mother gave me two items: this doll and what looks like a Victorian or early 1900’s table that I will be posting and asking about as well. She gave them to me, hoping I would sell them. I’ve been arguing with her ever since! In a nice way, of course. :) Thank you again for taking time to answer my question and identify the doll. She seems to have a great deal of love in her. She’s just an amazing creature!
