I found this vase last weekend and because it was rather unusually shaped, I invited it home. Well, I have bought stranger things, but this one is not far off.
The vase appears to be handmade. It has a ruffled top and a crudely polished pontil. It is about 20 inches tall and has a very strange shape. I am not sure how to describe the shape but "twisted" is not the right word. "Tortuous" might be a better term.
The blue glass is rather beautiful. It looks great in the light. I think it might be cobalt glass. The decoration consists of small golden leaves and white flowers. There is some profile to the flowers and it could be enamel, but it also could be thickly applied paint.
I have seen similar shapes of vases made in Poland (Krosnos) and some saying they were made in Scandinavia, but their finish was more modern.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking:)
Many thanks, vetraio50:)
Nice find, Gudrun !!!
Thanks a lot, fortapache:)
Thanks for your comment, Kevin:)
Very pretty white floral design on the cobalt glass, unusual & nice find
Newfld, thanks so much for your comment. It's really hard to find out more about this vase. I tried for a long time but so far no luck:(
Thanks, Ms.CrystalShip. I am glad you like it. I have a few cobalt glass vases but they are all much smaller. This one doesn't really fit in. But I love the rich colour.
An example of drunken glass blowing? Skoal! Very pretty.
Kwqd, you solved the mystery! For sure, the glassblower must have been drunk, LOL. Thanks for your comment:)
Many thanks for the love, Newfld, blunderbuss2, AnythingObscure, and fortapache :)
Thanks so much, Ms.CrystalShip, kivatinitz, and racer4four :)
