You’ll notice all of my posts are filled with an exorbitant amount of exclamation marks: But my knowledge is so rudimentary that all I can do is guess. So please forgive me. I found this in an antique store yesterday and I had to buy it. I paid $48 for it and I’m sure I overpaid but it “sang” to me and I had no choice but to buy it!!! ???? I can promise that I don’t ever pay this much… Or let me just say it’s a very rare occasion… So rare, I can’t remember the last time...since I have paid this much for a piece of jewelry, but I knew it was mine when I saw it. It’s plastic. I don’t know how to tell if it’s Bakelite but it’s from the 30s, I believe, so I’m guessing it might be. The paint has worn off one of the wooden beads and the wood underneath is just gorgeous. I want to say those are real turquoise beads, too. But, alas, I may just be speaking my hopes and dreams aloud! ???? Any and all feedback is always appreciated!

** None of the jewelry I list under show and tell is done so with the intent to sell. These are my personal pieces that are very special to me and that I enjoy learning about. If there is ever anything I intend to sell and I’m looking to find information about I will disclose that in the description. Thank you for all your help!**

Thank you Eileen! I couldn’t part with this if I tried. For a few moments, I actually thought the shop owner wasn’t going to sell it to me! Trust me when I say it wasn’t a sales tactic. She told me several times how she’d sold a few things that she regretted and she felt this might be one of the things she’d regret. This was after I had committed to buy at the price She had asked. I loved it so much I didn’t think about asking for a discount… I didn’t care! So I guess I was right about it being something special. At least to me...even if it doesn’t turn out to be worth anything. I love it and therefore it’s priceless ???? I’d love to get Mary’s opinion! What is her user name? Eileen, once again, I have no idea why you friended me but I am so grateful! I hope I can return the favor or pay it forward eventually. Thank you!

It's a great brooch and never regret paying for it!

Mary is Valentino97 and the best way to get her to have a look is to comment on one of her posts and ask. She is a knowledgeable and helpful person, a great one of our CW people.

I can’t believe that everything I heard was true!!

“If you post the plastic fantastic, she will come”
      ????
Hi Mary!! I’m so glad to meet you! And racer? I have a feeling you know a great deal more than you give yourself credit for!! I’m so glad to meet you as well… Did I miss your name? I’m Carmen and I’m so thrilled to meet all of you! Except Eileen. Who I’ve already met and taken as hostage.. um..I mean as a “mentor”????

Mary-you blew me away with your lightning fast assessment! How do you tell the difference by sight between bakelite and celluloid? Or is it just knowledge about the different elements and putting the pieces of the puzzle together? It would seem to me that’s how it would be. Links are always appreciated. You don’t have to retype information I’m sure you’ve typed 1000 times. I’m not lazy when it comes to researching it’s just that I get lost in the literal ocean of information, Much of it seems to be contradictory and a great deal of it, downright suspect.

As for the dowels they were painted but looks like a gold but where it rubbed off is this deep rich wood that’s simply gorgeous. I’m going to knock off the close-up of the pin and get a really good picture of the painted dowels and where the paint has rubbed off the larger. Again… Thank you all for your help! I knew this one was special I felt it!!
