My latest acquisition is this 1880's ? Leather Barrel Top Trunk. Measures in at 30" long x 19 Deep x 26" Tall. It is my first encounter with this exact style of slat and corner clamp hardware. There is no makers name or trays and is originally linen lined. It has a little extra nail work on top and face and the metal capped slat ends. It has the 3 horizontal wood slats front & back and double on the ends. These are all a little thicker than I normally see and they certainly look like they are made of oak. The lock is all brass & has no makers name that I see, but it does have the patent dates listed of 1867, 1869 & a reissue date of 1879. What I noticed which is a little out of character for a trunk of this decade of the 1800's is the ribbon/ cloth lid stays. I thought at first glance of the cloth lid stays in the ad photo, it leaned more toward the 1870's because of this detail, but the lock states it was re issued in 1879 & the latches or hasps I believe are Sessions with the patent date 1882 so for sure not. I do find that a little weird that for a wooden trunk, the use of the ribbon lid stays from pre & early 1870 practice would be still used by someone 10-15 years after the metal stays basically came into to play. I would like to clarify some other patent dates which I am lacking for the other hardware components, to either place it to Early - Mid - or Late 1800's so if anyone can help me fill in a few blanks it would be appreciated..... Drill, Brian, Jim, Marvin... (wink wink) ..lol. Thanks for looking!!

Thanks Trunk man for the love! I have a trunk I posted a while back in leather next to perfect by J. Eveleigh that was made in your city, I don't think you had seen it but was eager for you too. It shows us the big hardware on some trunks can be of Canadian origin. I know I have two other at the beginning of my posts with such hardware but no name. Thanks again!
