I've been using this as a vanity chair...its quite petite as you can see in the first pic next to a dining room chair. It seems to be stuffed with horse hair and has metal coil springs. The back legs are square and straight. I can't find any markings or dates...maybe it's under the upholstery? If anyone has any ideas about this chair, I'd love to hear it!
    Thanks!

I see you took picture of where it is pegged, is it pegged all the way around? That is old world style joinery and will last more than a lifetime. Today they use glue because it is quick and cheap. When you peg a joint everything expands and contracts at the same rate preventing the joint from splitting. The down side of pegging is the time it takes which naturally increases cost. Today quality is out and the almighty buck is in.

Yes...most of the joints have pegs...just not in the front where it would show.

The pegs should be on the sides front and rear where the tenon slides into the mortise hole. The pegs lock it in place holding the chair together. Very simple yet effective joinery.

Does anyone have any idea of the style and era? I'm not sure where to start on my research of this chair.
