This was a really unusual foray I made this week into the dandelion decor, 100s of pieces came up in the search, most were inspired or reflected the Art Nouveau or Jugenstil decorative movement. It was an effort to leave the classical style art works behind, and create a flowing, natural design of floral, foliage, females, and fabulous aesthetic compositions.

From Western Europe to the Eastern Europe countries, many producers and artists in many mediums, such as glass, ceramics, illustration, textiles, woodwork, bronzes, etc. during the last part of the 19th century.

The flowers chosen were often humble wild flowers such as Queen's Lace, Dandelions, Dogwood, Daisies, Poppys, Crocus, and the cultivated flowers, Iris, Tulips, Orchids, Petunias, Etc. The interest was to show all the stages of the flowering buds and the leaves, quite inventive and accurate in their motifs.

We have carpets of dandelions in the spring here, they grow at the same rate as the first shoots of grass on some lawns. Today we find them a pest, and something to get rid off with all the other weeds who persist in showing up.

I am offering a glimpse of my late 19th century French glass vases by Legras, an antique Russian illustration of decorative dandelions, and a combination of M. Verneuil dandelions garland bands,

Only in the 20th century did “we” decide dandelions were weeds. People prior to us valued them for nutritious food and medicine!
I’ve never eaten one, but maybe I’m missing out....
      I love your post!

      Thanks Watchsearcher,
When I was looking up the plant it was amazing the good health properties the dandelion has, as a fresh flower and herb leaves for salads, for tea, and other applications.
Never eaten one either because they are often sprayed with broad leaf weed killer.
Just think life is very ironic, our attitudes change but often not for the best.

Well that is a gorgeous vase! I love that the leaves shapes were incorporated into the patterns of little multi-directional lines. So pretty! Yes, I've eaten the leaves in salads. I love how little children are in wonder of the dandelion- then they blow the seeds everywhere. ha ha!

Lovely colours- the wine and yellow really go well together and yeah....never eaten dandelions either but would certainly be interested in tasting them. I've heard of tea being made from them actually
