    B & W Photo Of Tire Fire

Black and White photograph of  Firefighters fighting a Large Tire Fire Circa 1980's.

The photo is 12 7/8" wide, and 10" tall.
With the matting it's about 18 1/2"wide and 16" tall.

Not sure where this is? Could be Virginia or since I'm in Washington State, its possible that its the 1984 Everett "Mount Firestone" fire?

    Great Piece of firefighting memorabilia.

The smoke cloud on the left, kind of looks like an angry dog rushing towards you.

If you have any idea where this is and when it is... let me know thanks.

    VIRGINIA
1983 – Seven million tires burned for nine months in Winchester, Virginia, polluting nearby areas with lead and arsenic. The location was cleaned up as a Superfund project from 1983 to 2002.

    EVERETT
1984 – A pile estimated at four million tires, known locally as Mount Firestone, ignited in Everett, Washington, and burned for months as the fire department was unable to extinguish it.

September 24, 1984, four million used tires -- stored for recycling in Everett -- begin burning. Although fire officials expect to extinguish the blaze by day's end, it is too difficult to contain, and "Mount Firestone" makes national news as it continues to burn, smolder, and pollute until May 1985!

Stupid waste of valuable ressources. It must have been possible to get something useful out of them.

I can understand what your saying..

My uncle, for awhile had something to do with building playground toys out of old tires.
