Removing remnants of the original leather covering. Exterior is the easy part. Preserving the elaborate interior compartments will be a painstaking and challenging project ! Please can someone help me date this one?
I love the double brass lock with the star that turns, and all the scalloped side metal.
Can’t wait to get into this one. A good way to spend time at home this winter # self distancing can be fun !

I am new to using Collectors Weekly. I’m sorry for confusing people by posting this one twice. - Still learning how to maneuver this page -

That's a nice one!! I can never seem to find any locks like that where I am, I would certainly like to though. Love the scalloped and extra metal work and the Slat clamps as well. Photos of the hardware is a better aid than all interior shots. Hinges, wheels, Handle caps, slat clamps etc. I believe the front latches are Pat 1873. On my trunk page if you see a trunk of mine that has various hardware components like on any of your trunks open it and check to see if "DRILL the patent KING" has left the hardware patent info Link. He's been an excellent and reliable source for doing so. For that matter on any trunk of quality. Trunkman, TrunkerMarvin, hmsantiquetrunks.com, Drill himself, bjb5859, jscott0363 all have superb trunks, excellent workmanship and information for the viewing and what a joy it will be for you to check these guys out, they are indeed all amazing.

Im4anythingOld - I appreciate your directing me. We have restored many many trunks. Though most were quite common, and we refer to them more as being a “rescue.” Our main goal was to keep them from going into a burn pile; because we could see the potential. Recently, we are at a point that we can get into finishing the special ones we want to show off - thanks for keeping me on track, with what information from me will help answer my questions.

The lock is made by Star lock works Phila.
Another early double Lock patent that may apply.

This T.L.Rivers trunk corner patent is slightly different than the one on your trunk
but it's close. I'm currently having a hard time finding yours. I'll keep looking, 1600 bookmarked trunk patents can make thing tricky to find sometimes.

I know of 3 makers that used the scalloped banding, but I 'm sure there were others.
Without a label or patented manufacturer hardware it is difficult to say definitively. These 3 makers did tend to label their trunks though.
      1. James M. Spear
2.Crouch & Fitzgerald (Although they also used their own patented corner hardware
      and lock.)
