We have had this one for two years. Would appreciate input and opinions. On a more “common” trunk, we wouldn’t hesitate to do a major restoration, but if this is more rare, we will do all possible to preserve as original as possible. Thanks in advance.

Nice one!! Your trunk is a Martin Maier. Great maker & great quality. Lots of info can be found on this site by punching in Martin Maier and reading the discussion pages, as well as just on the internet. Greendog has many but no longer available to view. You can still see some in

Looks fine to me as is? Why would you restore it? It will only be in original condition once.

I’m more familiar with Martin Maier trunks with the “M” hardware. We have had several. I will research this style more extensively.
One that I’m working on now is probably one of the maker’s earliest trunk styles. It does not have the signature hinge or hardware. But it does have an attached Ornate tag with the name (Martin Maier) and the complete address On Woodward Ave. Detroit listed. I should post this one. It’s one of the nastiest trunks we’ve tackled yet. Definitely “Fancy Firewood” But my friend is obsessed with Martin Maier and we agreed to help,
