This is a very tall Bohemian hand painted vase of the Victorian era. 40 cms tall and 22 cms across the ruffled top. I like the separation of the ruffles in blue and the body and foot in an opal white. The pontil is snapped and there is a number and a letter on the bottom which you can see in the photo. Purchased locally.
I had a similar vase to this in pink, sold it some years ago when making room for more glass. Yours is a lovely piece.
IronLace, thank you for the gracious comment. I definitely agree that storage and display of glass is a problem. We all want to see what we purchase in the open and unobstructed. It's a shame that we have to sacrifice, but sometimes it is unavoidable. I've got boxes of Victorian glass stored way in cardboard that have not seen the light of day for several years.
Yes, I agree, it's a challenge to balance displaying one's collection to full effect, & having things stored away when space becomes limited. My collection was also quite eclectic, with glass from various eras besides Victorian. In the end, I had to let go of the surplus in order to redefine what my core areas of collecting interest truly were. Out of hundreds of sold items, there are only a few regrets. I look forward to seeing what else you have stored away...it all sounds intriguing. I have often found that when I pull out items that have been stored away for a while, one can see them in a whole new light, & fall for them all over again. Posting them here is a perfect way to both document & share one's collection.
