This is where I stayed for one night in Kingman Arizona on Route 66. It was built in 1939. As is typical of Route 66 motels it is understated and minimalist. OK it is really completely over the top. When I checked in I got good 10-15 talk on the history of the motel and who stayed there. Also don't drive through town at 105 MPH. A certain current movie star did and got a large fine. Plus he had to come back for a few weekends to pick up trash.
I had a choice of the James Dean room or the John Wayne room. I went for John Wayne. James Dean was a guy in his 20s playing teenagers. Every room has a theme. I thought the bathroom was the most interesting part with a rather large tile shower.
Every outside wall is covered with murals. One of the claim to fames is the world's largest Route 66 map which is painted on the outside wall. In the meantime check out the striking scenery in the last photo. It is worthy of any classic western.
It must have been a blast to stay at this iconic Rte 66 motel, love the star themed rooms. The craggy mountain view is spectacular
Great era. Rt. 66 is an icon. You couldn't have planned it all, it started with a road, a line,it just fell into place to create the overall masterpiece, like some of the great artists' works were created. I want a '62 Vette that goes back in time.
Thank you very much Newfld. It was one of my favorite parts.
Thank you very much valentino. It was!
Thank you very much Toyrebel. A 62 vette would be perfect for cruising route 66.
