Nice shape and colour. The crystal handle is thorny and looped - I wouldn't suggest that you carry it while shopping for groceries. A decorative function only and is very pretty sitting on a table. Three casings of glass - clear over pink over white. There are 4 stylized flower roundels embossed around the outer crystal layer. I think it was blown into a mould to obtain this effect. The middle casing is made up of thin diagonal cranberry stripes. The pontil is snapped and recessed at the bottom. The top crimping is attractively done. Made - first 5 years of 20th century? Height 17 cms and width across the top is a bit over 13 cms.
I could wonder if the moulded roundels are superfluous, but more was always better! I love that final touch to this sweet basket. So much work to put all the features together.
Hi racer4four, this basket is well designed without being too ostentatious. Pink shading with the stripes and roundels and an unusual crimped top creates the appeal. It sits on an old Victorian table with several other pieces of glass and certainly doesn't look out of place.
The rim crimp is Welz as is the roundel but the date........
