Another kintsugi opportunity - Tenpozan Hagi Ware meoto yunomi set

This meoto yunomi set is Hagi Ware made by Tenpozan Kiln, clearly marked by the artist on the bottom of both cups and the tomobako. Documentation was also included in the tomobako. It was in new condition when shipped to me.

This Hagi Ware meoto yunomi set suffered damage during shipping to me and the smaller yunomi was broken into several pieces. I was really excited about adding this set to my collection as I do not have a Hagi Ware meoto yunomi set and this looked to be a very nice one, which it proved to be. I was very disappointed to find it was damaged due to negligent packing by the seller, but received a full refund and got to keep it.

When I examined the broken pieces of the smaller cup, it was interesting to see how porous this pottery is. Easy to see why Hagi Ware must be conditioned before and after use to avoid mold and discoloration damage. Also on the positive side, the smaller cup can be repaired and is a good candidate for the Japanese art of repair, kintsugi. Another broken piece for my kintsugi pile. Shucks.
