Hi, have bought an Ansonia mantle clock recently and have searched through over 4000 images of Ansonia clocks online and cannot find this model anywhere?! Can anyone help to identify this model, age etc. Would be great help. Ansonia click company New York, Patented June 13 1882 is the only marks I can see. I have a feeling the scrollwork at the top is not original but not sure. Thanks for having look.
Hello and welcome to Collectors Weekly, clocks. You do have an unusual and well cared for antique Ansonia there. I can not find this model in any of my usual references. The stenciling on the glass door/tablet looks to be a pattern used by Ansonia so unless there are signs of modifications, like "extra" mounting holes in the back of the clock, I have no reason to believe that the clock is not basically original. The Crest does appear to have been placed a little off-center, so I see your concern there. I did see a few remotely similar models. Based on that I would guess that your clock was probably manufactured shortly after the movement's patent date in the late 1880's Let's say 1886 give or take a few years. It's not Oak. It may be made from Black Walnut.
Wish I could give you a positive ID. Sorry. Thanks for sharing your unusual Ansonia Wood Case; Gingerbread; Kitchen Clock.
