I think it was Ms.CrystalShip that mentioned woodpeckers today or yesterday, prompting these pics. This is otherwise the trunk of the Bradford Pear tree by my driveway (that I've shown before usually when in bloom) which when I inherited it I also apparently inherited a woodpecker that has seemingly called it his (?) 'flyover stopping point' between where he/she otherwise migrates each year, apparently for a good while before that tree became "mine". For about a week or so each spring or fall since I got this house, he appears for a few days and amuses me by otherwise kinda 'meowing' (bird language, who knows?) and talking to me while I come and go, I try to talk back best as I can. :-)
Once more I know nothing particular about birds, he/she is otherwise mostly gray/brown, quite too small and quick to get actual pictures of, with smallish bright red markings around its head.
OOPS -- forgot to add -- in the last week or two he/she has been back at least briefly for his autumn/winter visit, perhaps slightly shorter this season because there's otherwise a few more than usual other critters (chipmunks, squirrels, neighbor kitty, a dog...) this year here, around and abouts that tree...?? <lol>
And I grew up in AL being told it was the gooney bird ! LOL ! How are you handling the holidays in S. AL ? Anything, talking to woodpeckers is not a good signs ! Crows are the best conversationalist. I thought everybody knew that ! Beware of robins because they lie a lot !
