Funny I just finished one exactly like this except mine was leather covered but the hardware and lock were the same. 34 inch is obviously is the length of the trunk, the #27 not sure on could be the style, The alligator embossed tin had two patent dates I believe 1885 and 1886, the 1877 hardware was patented by Charles Taylor 1877, also the front latches were patented by Taylor in 1882, the finger like hardware and the top center hardware is J.H. Sessions, the lock was patented 1883 by I believe Corbin lock Co. patent date is on the back side of the lock latch, the metal lid lift was patented 1887 so this puts the trunk late 1880's to early 1890's this is the third one like this that I have seen in the last couple months but I don't know who the maker is and without a label hard to say, the hardware is common and was used by all trunk makers at the time.
