Found this at a thrift shop last week.It has a date of 1810 written in pencil on back of the secretary drawer. It has hand made dove tail joints, square nails, plane marks and all the other hints it was hand made. The woods are walnut, poplar and pine.I had an antique dealer with 30 years experience in furniture tell me the date of 1810 on the piece is right for the construction. My question is where was it built.Any ideas as to the area of the U.S. it was made? There is a signature in pencil behind the 3 small maple drawers. It could only have been done by the maker of this dresser/secretary.Very faint and it and unreadable on the wood that has not been covered by the drawers.

FANTASTIC-- I love it! The visible tenon joints on the side are GREAT.

1810 would be too early for this piece. I'd put its earliest date as 1850s- 1860s, based on style and construction.

      i'd guess 1910, but it's still a nice piece.

This has had some rework done to it. The 30 year man should have noticed it right away. I would be interested in seeing the hand made dovetails.
