I just purchased this from a local thrift store. Woman had a ton of stereoscopic pics from the 1800s. She also had a viewer that I'm going to be purchasing soon.

Nice 1890s stereoview.
Were all of the views tan mounts like this?
Scott
All of the ones I saw were. But she had hundreds
Do you plan on buying them all? I've gotten great deals on huge lots before, when I negotiated a volume discount.
If not, what subject matter are you buying? Are you picking what appeals to you? Some subject matter are more valuable than others.
Scott
I'm probably going to try to talk to her about a bulk deal. I really don't have a set subject matter I look for, I just get the ones that call to me. I know I love macabre stuff, so I look for that, but it just depends on the pic.
The military related views are desirable-- American ones much more than foreign.
There were hundreds of views made of US soldiers in the Spanish American War/ Phillipine Insurrection and they are sought by collectors. Of those, views of the "Rough Riders" bring the best prices.
Good luck,
Scott
Thanks for the pointers, Scott. I had never looked through the viewer at these until the other day. I became fascinated immediately. I'll know what to look for now. =)
LOVE that Pit Bull!! CUTE!!!
