Rich cranberry which fades into the pale yellow bottom. I hoped that it might have been an example of Webb's Alexandrite but it did not have the blue tinge around the top ruffles. The circular pontil is highly polished. I think it's English and probably made in the last 15 years of the 19th century. The ovoid body has a vertical series of optic ribs. The cranberry colour is a result of reheating at the glory hole. Dimensions: just under 9 cms tall and 9 cms across the widest part of the ruffles.

If this has sixteen lobes it is most likely to be Welz.

Hi, sklo42, I've checked a few times and the rib count came to 17 - close, but no cigar! I didn't even think that it was a chance of being from a firm like Welz. Have you seen a website which has an example of this rib pattern?
