I took a chance on this one, because cost was minimal, even though I did not do proper research beforehand. It's a porcelain sign 10"x15". Shows a fair degree of aging, with rusty grommets, and a good amount of wear around edges and on back. But as far as I can tell, it's not listed in Petretti's book. I've found Ande Rooney tin sign reproductions on line, which don't have the trademark detail. ("Trade Mark Reg" is I believe 50's Coca Cola.) I did see a 2007 auction reference to a 1993 porcelain sign, description sounds a lot like this one, but no image. So any sign experts, please let me know what you think: How old is this sign?

    Thanks. Best Regards, Dave

check this out. http://www.retroplanet.com/PROD/30831 I think you might be glad the pirice was min. I could be wrong and hopefully it's a rare Canadian sign or something but we'll have to wait for the jury on that.

Hi Tommy. Yeah, I'm not sure. The retroplanet.com item is an embossed tin version repro. Mine is porcelain on metal w/grommets. I have a feeling it's a 90's fantasy piece because it does show some age and I can't find anything that looks like it from the 50's. Hopefully somebody will see the posting and lay a little wisdom on me. I may end up hanging it in the bathroom!!!! :)

I just looked at my signs (even my repops) and bottles and "trademark registered" is printed completely not " reg" or it's trademark "R "in circle I even got my magnifying glass out and in the book it's always spelled out completely. Embossed and porcelain is a good thing though.

That's a good point, I think you're on to something. I looked in Petretti's and could only find one item marked Trade Mark Reg. A Canadian can from the '60's. Thanks for the info. This sign could be from the Great White North...

Following Up: I received the sign today and it's a 1993 reproduction. See additional picture. Someone made a poor attempt to scratch out the date of manufacture, then scribbled over it with a pencil. Was sold as "vintage" and "original". Is neither, so will be sent back for full refund. It's not all champagne and strawberries, folks!!!!!

Man I hate that!!! People never cease to amaze. If you don't mind, was it an ebay item?
    7. Daddy_Nobucks Daddy_Nobucks, 13 years ago
Sure was. Seller said he was shocked, that he purchased it from a reputable dealer. I saw that small print straight away. It was so tiny, I had to get out the magnifying glass. Lucky for me whoever tried to alter it was totally inept at doing so. I guess they all can't be home runs!

I hate it when I'm surfing ebay and every single cola piece is labeled " vintage, original, and RARE" But then there are the ones who don't know any better also. At least we get conversation pieces out of it eh....

I noticed another sign similar to this up on eBay (different seller), being advertised as manufactured in 1946. I thought it interesting that the date info is printed on an "unpainted" part of the sign exactly where the sign I purchased/returned had listed the 1993 date. Hmmm....
