OK you Danish Modern Mid Century furniture experts...Let's see if you can come up with solid evidence to identify and value this 50 year old bedroom set!
Please contact me ASAP at culmone@comcast.net or 801.768.0708 (Utah) to help me identify this awesome Danish Modern Mid Century Solid Black Walnut 4-pc. Bedroom Set (circa 1960) I just inherited from my father who recently passed away. I have 2 nightstands, a long dresser (pictured in two of the attached photos), and a chest-on-chest dresser with no stamped manufacturer name on any part of the furniture. My parents special-ordered it just prior to getting married in in New Jersey in 1963.
I can tell it's very high quality (probably not found in current furniture manufacturing these days.) because of the dove-tail drawer construction, solid 1-inch thick black walnut (a very expensive type of wood) exterior surfaces, curved solid legs, etc.
I'm wondering if it's a Vladimir Kagan design, but I'm not sure. What do you think? I'd love to hear from you...
Did you ever identify the manufacturer of this set? I have the same dresser (the chest -on-chest) and have never (before your post) seen it anywhere else. It is a beauty, and I have yet to find out any information on it. Please let me know if were able to find the make. I searched Vladimir Kagan, but didn't find anything like this. Thank you! Jen
FYI, my post is here with this same dresser: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/55742-mid-century-modern-dresser--pls-help-id?in=774
I will let you if I come up with anything.
Good Morning, Jen.
Thanks for your messages. You're the first person I've ever met that has a piece of furniture even remotely close in design to the bedroom set I posted last fall!
To answer your question, I never could identify the manufacturer, but a couple people suggested it may have been made by an American company named Lane back in the early 60's, that constructed high-quality copies of Vladimir Kagan designs.
At any rate, a buyer came forward with $1400 cash back in November, so I sold the bedroom set to him. I hope it wasn't worth $20,000!
Wonderful! Well I will let you know if it is ever identified. ...regardless, I love it. :) Thank you for your response. fun stuff!
