This unknown type of metal disc was in with a lot of various aged items in an old Depression-era Cigar Box I picked up at a flea market. It looks like it was maybe dug? The front is damaged some and smashed in.
I've searched and searched and cannot find anything like it.
It measures 2.5" across. It has a design around the front border. The front design has lots of lines running circular and in patterns. It has most obvious what looks like a shield design and OO 00 on the front.
The back has a crown and the phrase "THE EMPIRE." Then underneath that the number 9464 clearly.
It has what looks like a broken hinge pin or ribbon connection on one side.
I've thought of maybe a snuff box lid, some sort of military or explorer medal, or watch fob??
It is light, not heavy, thin metal of some sort.
Any help appreciated!
Along the lines of a snuff box (but its a little big for that?) maybe it was part of a ladies' compact -- is it slightly 'dished' like it almost appears in your pics? Also, can you tell anything at all about what kind of metal it is made of?
Yes, it is 'dished', as you call it, but I am not sure it was made like that; it appears to have been from pressure or some sort of damage. I have no clue what kind of metal.
