Joel Philip Myers was hired by Blenko Glass without training in either glass design or crafting. But as Director of Design from 1963 to 1970, Myers learned on the job much of what he would need to eventually become a proficient artist=designer in glass. And many of his designs for Blenko are among the must sought after by collectors today. His exaggerated tall floor vases, his series with air-twist inclusions in paperweight stoppers, his vessels with applied spirals, and his creative use of molded decoration are but a few of his cool sixties designs that came to exemplify Blenko in particular and modern handmade production glass in general. Myers is one of the most pioneers of the studio glass movement. This is one of Myers works of art, this beautiful turquoise optic swirl vase is just lovely, this Blenko vase was made by Joel Myers in 1969 and it is number 6928. This Blenko glass vase has beautiful twist and swirls is just beautiful, this floor vase is well sought after by glass collectors, it can be used to hold a beautiful bouquet of flowers or just stand by itself it is just that that beautiful, this vase measures 20 1/4" tall and about 8" in diameter. Lovely vase. However, Joel Myers came to Blenko GLass with a Master of Fine Arts for a very good school. He was not a 'pig n the poke' for Blenko.
Blenko designer was a prized position, one that allowed Winslow Anderson,
and Joel Myers and Wayne Husted all to move on to six figure income jobs after leaving Blenko.
Myers a young jewish man came to Blenko after Alfred, made his home in Milton but was a part of a larger movement to define glass art, later he left to develop
a glass art program at University of Chicago.
Lovely photo - not factual info.
