I bought this small table from a woman who told me her mother recieved it as a parting gift from her host family while staying in the phillipines in the 40s. Ive since been told the writing on the back is chinese. I'm not sure if it is what I was told or the age I was told but i love it either way. Can anyone tell me about the writing?

It distresses me to see a piece with such history and prior status, discarded along with a burger box and drink cup.

I would be careful with attributions to this. I don't mean to be a pessimist and there's only four pics, but I have a table/chest much like this in general style and appearance. Mine has different actual hardware and details (twice as many little drawers on each side that all only go halfway in with another whole set like it on the other side -- is yours like that too?) but it also looks like it is put together in much the same way with all the paper loosely covering inner surfaces.

I'm afraid, in the case of mine anyway, all that paper simply covers how absolutely **CHEAPLY** the whole thing is constructed -- the bare minimum of real wood, cleat blocks, fasteners, glue -- not to mention a general horrible 'fit and finish' to all of that inside and out. (but also featuring a kind of 'distressed' look from the beginning, which helps hide all that?!) I actually used one of those tiny drawers on mine to hold little wooden bits of the thing I'd randomly find on the floor under it, or inside another drawer, or wherever...especially if it ever got moved...

I got mine for $5 at a garage sale late 1980's or so (with one already busted part which was easy enough to glue back together) and was told and believed it had come from a local 'imported furniture' warehouse place...??

GOOD LUCK -- I hope yours is more like an original something mine was a cheap-a** knock-off of...??

Gillian I erased your first comment because it is rude and shallow. Apparently being respectful in comments isnt your strong suite. That pic was taken in my truck on the ride home w it. The table actually is in my home nestled nicely between all my other pieces in my dining room. Your just rude.

Anything obscure. So far this one seems solid but I could be fooled. Some repops are getting really good at hiding the fact that they're fakes. Thank you tho

"The table actually is in my home nestled nicely between all my other pieces in my dining room." May we see a photograph taken in the dining room please?

Gillian I hope this will suffice
