Hadn't posted anything for a couple of weeks as I had been busy, first was the Hospice Auction, didn't get any glass all the Murano was Japanese and people who didn't know went a bit silly. But there was this, I didn't really look at it during the viewing as I thought it would go for heaps, when the bidding finally started at $40 I thought I might be in and eventually got it for $160. Then spent the rest of the auction sitting uncomfortably hoping it was all there! Turns out it was but there were issues with the case and looking through the telescope was a bit hit or miss depending on the eyepiece. Turns out Asahi is also known in the west as Pentax, these were made in the 50s and according to a few people into telescopes are good quality equipment which meant it was meant to be taken apart and cleaned, so after a days work carefully disassembling everything and cleaning the lenses with Ziess wipes I got it functioning well . Then a tidy up of the case and tripod it was out that evening to check out the moon. Telescope is a 60x800 and with the 9mm lens in has 89 magnification so had a lot of fun checking out the moon which was only a small 1/4, waiting for a full moon now.
