In 1964 Hasbro celebrated the 40th anniversary of GI Joe by releasing all of its accessory sets that were released 1964. I think it was all of them. Almost all but not the jeep. It was a happy time for GI Joe collectors. I thought I bought a lot of them but I should have bought more. The quality was so high it brought down the value of the originals. A fully equipped GI Joe would be worth $150-200 but now you could get one for $35.
This set is for the Action Sailor. This was a key set as it had hard to find items like the Shore Patrol helmet and US Navy Ammo can. Many Shore Patrol uniforms survived from the 60s but not so much the small accessories. Originally I was just opening every set and using it but now I am saving one of each card. This set is made up of 4 small cards. Most sets were made up of one of the large cards.
Plus each set came with a reproduction box and figure with manual and stickers. This one came with the rare cloth cap.
In the meantime I have been improving my GI Joe Navy display which will be a crowd pleaser I am thinking. It is pretty good.
I love all of your GI Joe collection. When the anniversary editions were issued, Santa gifted each of my two sons with one on Christmas morning that year. I do hope they still have them. They didn't seem as excited as I was on Christmas morning in 1970 when my brother and I each got a GI Joe from Santa on Christmas morning:)
Thank you very much Scott. I was quite happy with my 40th GI Joes I got for Christmas. I need a few more for displays.
