This little box is a simple splitter for cable TV (co-axial cable) wiring, used to break one incoming line into two outgoing ones. Such gizmos used to be the exclusive and somewhat guarded "property" of any given CATV service provider -- the customer had to pay for 'authorized' usage of just about every inch of the cable from pole to TV set, if you wanted 2 televisions connected you paid more for one of these and the 2nd wire on your house. (and if you got one of your own and installed it yourself, you'd be disconnected permanently and be obligated to pay a huge extra bill if/when they discovered it?!!)

Nowadays, of course, these things are a dime a dozen everywhere electronics stuff is sold, and you're lucky to get a single wire to *anywhere* on your house from the cable co...what you do with it from there is your problem?!

This little one likely dates from the 1960's-70's by the way it is made and labeled, it is actually a little bit smaller than most found these days. It has most of a paper label on it identifying it as a "602-5 TWO WAY SPLITTER", by ELECTRO PRODUCTS of Athens, GA.

AO, back in the late 70s, I was home one day when I heard strange noises coming from the back outside wall of my 2 story house....I couldn’t imagine what was making the unusual sounds.
A little while later when I went outside, I discovered that the cable wire that my husband had installed up the wall to the second floor had been pulled down and removed by the cable guy....that was an ‘illegal’ extension so they were justified in removing it....but the guy didn’t even ring the doorbell to tell me he was about to rip wiring out of the house (I didn’t even know that was a no-no anyway). A splitter just like yours was very likely the illegal device being used!
I was a criminal and didn’t even know it!
