Here's a neat little solenoid engine that runs on one D cell battery. I don't know if it was commercially made or was somebody's project. It is quite early in construction.
I have several solenoid engines, and I never saw this one before.
I bought it from a gentleman in northern , NJ. I had to drive to the man's location and saw, who I believed to be Whitney Houston in the yard next door. I mentioned it to the seller of the engine and he said "yes", they were neighbors for some time. Interesting, but I digress... back to the solenoid engine.
I'll tell you how this little engines works:
The football shaped item , on the top of the engine makes contact with a brass spring plate and the 1.5 VDC battery energizes the
magnetic coils (solenoids). this starts the plate on top of the coils to wobble to make contact with the coils. as soon as the football shaped shaped item looses contact with the spring plate and thus looses magnetic pull of the plate above the coils. This action of on-again off-again magnetism spins the flywheel.
