These are the sellers photo’s. I came across this ring today and decided to buy it, in my opinion the ring has been adapted as you can see from the back. Them leaves are very Bernard Instone, I was thinking that it could have been a brooch in its earlier days, I’ll have a good look at it when it arrives. I was wondering what people’s thoughts are about adapting jewellery or anything to give it a new least of life. Myself I think it’s a good idea in the throw away society we live in.

    Many thanks for looking

      Attractive and unusual ring!
Unless one buys jewellery primarily as a collector/investor, I think it's fine to make adaptations to it. Its purpose is to be worn and enjoyed, after all. Otherwise it's rather sad if all that beauty just sits in a case or drawer!

Hi rhineisfine, has you may know I am a collector of Bernard Instone. I agree with you that in some cases especially if there as been some damage you can adapt pieces.
I’m not sure if I like the adaptation to this ring, when it arrives I’ll have a closer look.
If you look a the second photo there are 2 square pieces of metal which the ring is attached, it looks a bit odd, I would be interested in what you think. Thank you for your comment.

Here are some new photos which show the ring clearly. I'm still not sure about the adaption.

Looking at the back of the mount, I would think it was originally a brooch.

Wouldn't it be awfully small as a brooch?? (like I'd know, but whatever...) As far as repurposing/adapting jewelry items, why not, at least as far as giving a new life to something that's perhaps already been damaged or is otherwise not terribly useful as-is? One wouldn't want to wreck a truly 'valuable' piece of course, but who's to really say what's valuable or not...something that can be used might even be more valuable in its own way than an 'original'...??

Hi AnythingObscure, I’m really not sure what this was originally, I haven’t seen a brooch like this by Bernard Instone. I agree with you if you can give a new least of life why not. I might change the ring and how it’s fixed to the mount.

Thank you for your comment Mary, I have to agree with you on the 2 metal pieces they might have been put there because of the curve on the mount.
