I found this at an auction and took a chance on it. There is a sticker on the back handwritten Clyde Pottery 1815-1903 Scotland. I have not found anything other than a Crown Pottery in Evansville Indiana that went out of business around 1950. Any thoughts?
Hello. I have done some research for you, and it seems like this mark and pottery is from Europe. As we know many from Europe traveled to America and setteled with their family to get a new life. I don’t know this beauty’s history, but some facts can be found here: https://www.inverclyde.gov.uk/community-life-and-leisure/heritage-services/museum/museum-collections/decorative-arts/clyde-pottery-marks. Hope this can bring some more help related to the pottery. Good luck in the search!
Thank you so much for your help. It seems to be a mystery as to it's origins and story. For some reason this person that owned it before was compelled to mark it with a note, which in my experience either means they researched it or it has some significant meaning or value to it. Could be personal or financial. I have a couple older pieces from family that they did the same thing. The closest I have found is like you with a blush rose pattern, but it's not quite it. I was intrigued when I saw it and only paid 3 American Dollars. I like unusual pieces. If I find out more I will keep you posted.
Sometimes I look at antiques and wonder what stories could be told about it. Did someone in the family bring a set and this was all that was left. Was it handed down? Did it get divided up? Was it used for special occasions or a decorative conversation piece? Why did they pick this particular one? This is part of the reason I like antiquing.
Your most welcome! I think you cans send them a mail and ask about this item. Maybe they have staff who can take a closer look and give you more information since this is related to the areas potteries in Scotland aswell. Good luck in searching. I also agree with you that it’s worth some effort in getting more details around items u you have bought. Sometimes even it’s difficult to know the history of a specific piece, but localisation and year etc might help too.
According to marks4antiques this is Crown Pottery of Indiana USA, and this mark was used in the late 1930-50's
