As the story goes, this French made cast iron (weighs about 100lbs) sign was hung outside a French restaurant to advertise horse meat meals. I'm told the French still serve such meals today. This particular sign is mounted on a very thick carved piece of wood that appears very old. The head has a finish on it that prevents rusting (I found an identical one on the net that didn't have the finish and was rusty) but don't know if it was made that way or if the finish was added later.
