Curb Find #2: Child's Chair

This child's chair is about 28.5" high and the seat is roughly 12.5" square. The seat is about 2.5" thick. It has as least five layers of paint (brown, pink, green, salmon and gray) on it. It is very heavy for its size. It might be old pine or oak. The layers of paint are very thick so no bare wood is visible. There does appear to be a large "N" stamped into the bottom of the seat, but the paint probably obscures any other marks. I think this is a pretty old chair.

I have picked up a half dozen old chairs from the curb over the years. The most memorable is a heavy quarter sawn oak chair that I carried about four miles home. That was in my younger days, though.

I may just leave it like this, though some of the spindles are loose and need to be re-glued. There is also some thick masking tape around two of the legs, but I am not sure if that is to keep the spindles in or if the legs are cracked. Someone nailed coasters or floor protectors onto the feet, without first drilling pilot holes, and two them have mild splits in them and one coaster is missing. Still too nice to let go to the dump. Just needs a little work....

I only had to carry this about a mile back to my house. As I get older, I think I appear more and more looney to observers along the way. Hey! Maybe they will think I am homeless and give me some spare change!
